CNN

CNN really helps us put the devastation in the South into perspective:

Wal-Mart closes 123 stores from storm.

Kazakhstan

Since Maggie and I are going to be on the far, far side of China, we are looking at the surrounding area to take a few days off.
The closest border to Urumqi (where we'll be in early Sept) is Kazakhstan.

Here's what Lonely Planet had to say about Kazakhstan:
If you're not a fan of endless semi-arid steppe and decaying industrial cities, Kazakhstan (Kazakstan) may seem bleak, but those who enjoy remoteness, wide open spaces, lunar landscapes, long hypnotic train rides and horse sausage will definitely be in their element.

China. Yeah, China.

Too tired to write.
Never to tired to post picture to Flickr.

China

I was just offered a quick, interesting gig helping to produce with an executive conference in Urumqi, China.
So, I'm going there on Saturday to scout the location.

Wikipedia says Urumqi is the "largest city in the western half of China, and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the remotest city from any sea at a distance of about 1,400 miles (2500 km) from the nearest coastline."

Anyone know anything about this place?
Drop me a note.
